A couple of months ago on Reddit, a Runescape player came forward, stating that, due to what he called a"serious information breach," he dropped about 45 billion coins in Runescape. Obviously, additional Runescape players and Reddit users mostly dismissed his claims, presuming it was actually his fault. But it looks like the joke was on them because it's true. It ends up that this theft was an inside job by one moderator in Runescape developer Jagex. Luckily, Jagex also confirmed which the breach resulted in no credit card or banking information.

We affirm that a Member of The Old School Team was dismissed from employment at Jagex following gross manipulation of moderator privileges," Jagex said in an announcement posted now. "During our rigorous routine system checks, intermittent activity was identified on small number of accounts, including the motion of riches and items back into the live game.

After our evaluation, we could solve the issue before any significant effect was made to the match, or economy. We have taken steps to return items and GP to some accounts that were affected. Whilst we don't return gold or items, we feel that given this situationwe wanted to guarantee no Runescape players lost out into the actions of a member of staff.

On account of this value the coins that are digital hold, Jagex is currently working together with the police. They've identified the worker in the middle of this as Jed Sanderson, '' said Mod Jed. This is worth more than $100,000 on markets that are gold-selling.

Some Runescape players have also linked Jed, allegedly. DDOS attacks have been allegedly used by this group on Runescape competitions. One such incident happened during a Runescape tournament last September at which 20k was online.

One has to feel for this Runescape player. He must have spent hundreds of hours building this up stash and making those coins. And it was taken away by a greedy worker. This may also serve as a warning. They might want to delve deeper into their employees' backgrounds before committing them moderating privileges.
