It was difficult to master magic as well as the Runecrafting

Ok, so I didn't weep. But I was quite mad. I had predicted that the 138 combat calculation would prevail. So so far, I'm right. As of now the 138 Combat Calculation is winning 71%-29%. The most troubling part? It's winning to serve a variety of ill-conceived purposes. It's superior to the previous system no matter how you look at the results.

It is important to start at the beginning of Runescape to understand the reason. Runescape was a completely different game from what it is today, as most players are aware. Blending of 2D/3D graphics, slower speed of movement, and an entirely new combat system. Today's players think of Runescape Classic as the three-hit combat system. That means you have to take three hits from your opponent before you are able to retreat, as opposed to Runescape 2 or 3 where you can run away whenever you'd like. The differences in combat go beyond the three-hit combat.

Melee was the main type of combat in the game's beginning. This was due to the fact that the other styles of combat, like ranged and magic, were generally underdeveloped. Ranged was a complete lack of development; there was little in the form of range armor, and it was rarely used in a PvP context. Magic had also its drawbacks. The player had to wait for 20 seconds following casting a spell which failed.

It was difficult to master magic as well as the Runecrafting ability made it impossible to afford runes. While magic was given more credence with the advent of god spells, it was primarily an addition to melee. Runescape Classic Attack was preferred over Strength in the combat calculations, and not Ranged and Magic.
