EA Sports teased this pairing by sharing a video
EA Sports teased this pairing by sharing a video on Monday featuring Peyton Hillis, a former Browns running back and Madden NFL coverage athlete, as well as two goats. In the video, Hillis is shown taking a knee alongside the goats while speaking on the phone. He tells the unidentified individual on the call "they repeated it."
EA Sports created something unique that was never done before on two console generations. It's been 10 years since Hillis appeared on the cover of the Madden NFL series' annual edition, and even longer since the game's cover featured an athlete with dual abilities on the cover.
Madden hasn't had two players divide the precious space which is the back of the game since Madden NFL 10 in the year that Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald and Steelers safety Troy Polumalu appeared on the front, posing as if they were poised to collide. This was a perfect scenario to play the game which was built around a unique mechanic that let players battle for loose balls and fight for extra yards -- the inches that typically determine the final outcome of a match.
Two years later, Hillis made the cover of Madden NFL 12 in the most dramatic of the fan vote surprises. EA chose him as its perfect pitchman in the teaser trailer released on Monday. The message was clear Thursday, through the nebulous message that Hillis' goats were only stand-ins to two G.O.A.T.s.
The teaming of Brady Mahomes and Brady is a natural match-up because it follows the tradition of the Super Bowl LV's matchup in which Brady's Buccaneers defeat Mahomes' Chiefs, and it is possibly the most highly regarded matchup in Madden history. Brady is bound for the Pro Football Hall of Fame when he decides to shed his extraordinary football boots, and with a Super Bowl triumph and Super Bowl MVP in his resume even at the beginning of his career Mahomes very well could be headed for Canton in the near future, too.
