I played Immortal and walked away unenthused

Atul, Gujarat, India Published date: May 6, 2020

Brief for multiplayer that is cross-platform means players play at the same game and across multiple platforms can join up. It was unthinkable that members of their Xbox and PlayStation communities and outside will have the ability to play. There are some wrinkles, such as allowing parties and buddy lists, but the fact that it exists is worthy of celebration.

Diablo 4 will take place in a world, in which you cross paths with other players even if you don't go out of your way. The game will support World Events in addition to PvP, though Blizzard is keeping details scarce on the areas of multiplayer so far. Not only would cross-play make it possible for friends on various platforms to team up (assuming PC players stop estimating their console cousins for the deficiency of high-speed clicking), it would also make it easier to find folks to play in any given activity.

Diablo: Immortal got the hell out of the way of Diablo 4 at BlizzCon 2019 this weekend, also a smart choice by Blizzard following last year's infamous and received reveal of their cellular Diablo spinoff. But a year after, Diablo: Immortal is currently looking pretty good, actually, and it may just be a fantastic match for the Diablo fan interested in getting some looting in on the go.

I played Immortal and walked away unenthused from the touchscreen-based Diablo at the time. I shared my colleague Ryan Gilliam's tepid response from past year's revealing that Immortal was... fine. It was fine. "[Diablo: Immortal] feels as though it's missing the feeling of satisfaction that comes each time you crumple a fanatic corpse in every other Diablo game," we mentioned last year. "The spirit of Diablo doesn't feel present."
