Corruption effects vary from providing you a stacking main-stat buff to causing AoE explosions around you, to spawning a tentacle that channels Mind Flay in your enemies. But, each Corrupted thing comes with a Corruption stat. It's simply taking damage has a chance to slow you - the more Corruption you've got, the further you get slowed.

Increasing your Legendary Cloak's rank raises your Corruption Resistance. This decreases the amount of the Corruption stat you have, without impacting the effect of your Corrupted items. There are lots of Azerite Essences that also offer a little Corruption Resistance you will be given Resistance by only one of these Essences if you equip several. Maintain the necklace. In 8.2 they introduced the Essence platform which lets you power your necklace with a few active and passive skills, and if you're a new player (as in, you do not already have them on another personality ) getting a few of them is very very grindy or timelocked. So, unless you're wanting to do end content, in which case you are kinda you can get with a few essences rather than the ones for your own role.
